January in the Lab

January was quite fruitful in several directions. First of all we started extractions of Cordyceps militaris, Lion's Mane, Turkey Tail, Birch Bracket, Chaga and Reishi in the mode of Single and Double Extraction. This is a part of our project of Compound Extract that you may find here. Double extraction is a two-stage process. First, mushroom dried fruiting bodies are extracted with absolute ethanol to get all non-polar, water insoluble compounds like etheric oils, polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenes, alkaloids, resins and fats. Next, the same material is boiled for several hours in an autoclave under over-pressure to free water soluble polysaccharides and beta-glucans of medicinal qualities from the mushroom tissues' chitin structure. In the end both solutions are joined, the ethanol is distilled off and exchanged with glycerol to get homogeneous product that contains all polar and non-polar active substances of the mushroom. As an experiment we applied the same procedure to Amanita. On the photo below you may see crystals of cordyceptin alkaloid that crystallized from the solution. This substance is main active compound of Cordyceps militaris.

The other direction of research last month was to finalize works on the method of muscimol isolation to our Vape Project of liquids for e-cigarettes. On the picture below there is crude muscimol isolate obtained with pH-discriminating liquid-liquid extraction adjusted for large amounts of mushroom material.

And last but not least there is new, fresh batch of our classic Muscaria Vacuum Extract ready to be bottled and send worldwide :). You may find it in our shop.
