What is Muscimol and Ibotenic acid?

• Muscimol is a non-addictive equivalent of the neurotransmitter GABA (gamma-aminobuthyric acid). It is not metabolised, does not accumulate in the human body and is wholly excreted with urine within 4-6 hours after ingestion. An everage content of muscimol in dry amanita muscaria muschrooms is at the level of 1,5-2%.
• Ibothenic acid is a chemical precursor of muscimol and it's content in fresh mushroom may be up to 5 times higher than that of muscimol. It is ibotenic acid that causes all stomach discomforts after ingestion of fresh or incorrectly prepared mushrooms. Proper preparation causes decarboxylation of ibothenic acid and turns it into muscimol. Our Amanita Extract is fully decarboxylated and stabilized at low pH to prevent chemical changes of muscimol concentration.

Is Amanita Muscaria a poisonous mushroom?

No it is NOT! In 2009 The North American Mycological Association has stated that there were „no reliably documented cases of death from toxins of these mushrooms in the past 100 years”. All reports of "poisonings" refer to ibotenic acid intoxication that in rare and extreme cases may couse severe vomits, stomach and head aches and drowsiness. Yet dangerous or lethal doses of muscimol and ibotenic acid are impossble to attain accidentally because it would require to ingest 1-2 dozens of mushroom caps. It is not something one may overlook!
